Blocking is the adhesion of two adjacent layers of film. It is a problem most associated with polyethylene and polypropylene films (either blown or cast) and to a lesser extent in extrusion coated or laminated products. It is thought that blocking of adjacent film layers occurs due to the presence of Van der Waal's forces between the amorphous regions of the polymer. These forces increase with reduced distance between the two layers, thereby increasing blocking when two layers are pressed together (e.g. winding onto a take off roll or stacking of finished converted films). Another possible reason for blocking is the presence of low molecular weight species (such as oligomers), which tend to migrate to the surface of the film. The addition of an antiblocking agent, results in the irregular particles protruding from the film surface as little bumps, thus creating surface roughness that keeps the films apart enough to make separation easy.

SPL provides an extra layer of protection, a permanent barrier against transmission of harmful fungi, bacteria and algae through contact with everyday items through the specially designed Antimicrobial masterbatch. The active ingredient in SPL Antimicrobial Masterbatch is ionic silver, a multi-site naturally occurring element, known to have broad spectrum antimicrobial activity. It is effective against harmful microorganisms present in everyday life such as bacteria (Escherichia Coli, Staphylococcus Aureus, Salmonella), fungi (Aspergillus Niger), mildew, mold & algae. Because silver is not considered harmful to humans, animals or plants this masterbatch can be used in a wide range of applications where hygiene, odor control & stain resistance are main objectives. The micronized silver is loaded onto a surface modified carrier which ensures that the silver is uniformly dispersed in the polymer matrix and is released at a controlled rate, ensuring homogenous protection of the material with minimum amount of silver. Hence, it is suitable for applications wherein the antimicrobial activity is expected to endure for several years preserving the aesthetic and functional properties of plastic products.

Static electricity is the buildup of excess electrical charges on the surface of an object, usually created when materials are pulled apart or rubbed together, causing positive (+) charges to collect on one surface and negative (−) charges on the other surface. Generation or presence of static charge can have severe consequences during production, processing or service period of plastics. Static electricity may result in sparks, are or explosion, shocks to human, materials clinging together, dust accumulation, splashing of inks during printing and filling / loading problems during packaging.

Supreme MAXLOAD Filler Masterbatch is designed for Mono & Multilayer blown films based on LLDPE/LDPE and HMHDPE resins, to give excellent mechanical properties & cost reduction without adversely affecting film properties. It is produced with virgin polymer only, with no recycle / reprocessed polymers, and thus adds value to the quality of film produced. It is formulated with high quality imported coated Calcium Carbonate with low particle size, low top cut & narrow particle size distribution. The performance of the masterbatch is enhanced with balanced package of Antioxidants and Processing aids.

SPL Optical Brightener MBs are based on fluoroscent whitening agents which absorb ultraviolet (UV) light in the 300 to 400 nm range and re-emit most of the absorbed energy as blue fluorescent light between 400 and 500 nm. The emitted blue light will reduce the yellowness of the polymer and provide the whiter than white appearance.

SUPREME Oxo-biodegradable masterbatch is an advanced & eco-friendly formulation designed for use in polyolefins. It is able to completely biodegrade PE / PP, and can control the time of initiation & the rate of polymer degradation. The masterbatch is dosed at 1-2% into the polymer at the film manufacturing stage. The product behaves like any other during its intended service life. After its useful life, the packaging may end up in the open environment. At this stage the additive takes effect and the degradation follows a two step process –

1) Oxidation phase involves breaking down of complex molecular structure into low molecular weight chains in the presence of additive, sunlight & oxygen. The polymer loses its strength and becomes brittle.
2) Biodegradation phase involves conversion of low molecular weight chains (litter) into CO , H O 2 2 & biomass in the presence of bacteria present in the soil.

SPL Polymer Processing Additive (PPA) Masterbatches are fluoropolymer based concentrate designed to enhance the extrusion of various thermoplastic resins, by improving process efficiency, product quality and machine throughputs. Typical extrusion processes that benefit from the addition of PPA Masterbatch are blown and Cast film, High pressure / Cross linked / Corrugated Pipes, Sheet, Wire & Cable, Injection & Extrusion Blow Molding, Tapes and Fibre. PPA MB is recommended for use in formulations consisting of LLDPE, LDPE, mLLDPE, HDPE, and UHMW-HDPE.

Polyolefins (PE / PP) due to their waxy nature exhibit a degree of tackiness and hence, are not readily processed into packaging films without the presence of additives which enhance their ability to separate & slide. Polyolefin films tend to adhere to themselves and metal surfaces due to their high coefficient of friction (COF). Slip additives due to their limited compatability with the polymer, blooms to the surface of the film, post extrusion, thus lowers the friction / COF between film layers and other surfaces. For ease of processing, the polymer films need a COF near 0.20 to 0.40.

Light energy emitted by the sun spans a wide range of wavelengths, mainly comprising of Ultraviolet (UV, 295 -400 nm), Visible (VIS, 400-700 nm) & Infrared (IR, 700-3000 nm) regions. 5% of the total solar energy reaching the earth is UV light. This part of the solar spectrum leads to degradation / weathering of polymers by breaking chemical bonds. 50% of the solar energy reaching the earth's surface is Visible light. The human eye translates various wavelengths into colours based on light scaterring, absorption and reflectance. 45% of the solar energy reaching the earth's surface is in infrared range. This part of the sunlight, if absorbed, results in elevation in material temperature. Weathering is the term used to describe the adverse response of a material or product to climatic conditions, often causing unwanted reactions. Light, high temperature and moisture can cause damage to plastics. The damage includes gloss loss, fading, yellowing, cracking, peeling, embrittlement, loss of tensile strength & delamination. Even indoor lighting & sunlight through window glass can degrade materials such as plastics, pigments & dyes, causing fade and colour change.

Anti Rodent Masterbatch is formulated to protect polymeric products, installed underground or otherwise, against rodent attacks. The masterbatch is commonly used in pipes, trunkings, injection parts, cables etc.
It is an environmentally friendly product. The active ingredients used are nontoxic rodent repellent, which deters rodent attack but does not kill the rodents. It causes an extremely unpleasant sensation when rodents tried to bite the finished products. Such intense and unpleasant sensation deters rodents from further attempts to attacks. The active ingredients exhibit low migration from the finish product and are harmless to humans and plant foliage.

Key advantages of the masterbatch are:
Excellent protection against rodent.
Environmentally friendly.
heavy metal free.
Low dosage level.
Compatible with varieties of resins including PE, PE-copolymers, EVA, PP, PVC etc. Easy to store, handle and process.
Does not require special equipment to process.
Colourable.
